I have no idea what I'm doing
Okay, so. This is mostly for me to try to be creative in a way that doesn't cost me any money and won't take up any space. If I had money and space I'd be constructing random stuff at weird hours of the night. But such is life and here I am; writing nonsense into a blog I made two years ago. How fun.
I guess I should start by describing the room around me. It's moderately lit by your average light fixture, y'know, the kind that looks like a nipple hanging from the ceiling. I'm sitting on the brown, slightly coarse carpet leaning against my bed. It's kinda uncomfortable, but I can't ever seem to find a good spot on this floor anyways so whatever. I'm typing this from an old, beat-up laptop that I attached a mouse and keyboard to because I don't like trackpads and flat keyboards. The keyboard and mouse I am using are moderately better. I have a trackball mouse and a keyboard with raised keys and all those useless round buttons on the top. You know, the kind with pictures of envelopes and calculators that tries to get you to use them for convenience but just ends up doing nothing because the buttons aren't properly set up. I like it because it has a little volume knob that I do use; mostly because it works with linux. I wonder if the other buttons actually do stuff...........I just pressed the buttons. Turns out they actually work, not that I'll ever use them. There's no button to launch the browser and I'm too lazy to figure out how to set it up myself. But I digress. Directly in front of me is an upside-down road bike. A 1977 Univega Gran Turismo to be exact. It took me the better part of an hour to actually find a website that could help me identify it. You'd think that the Internet would make researching a bike really easy. Although I guess before the Internet I'd have to hunt down a bike catalog or something. The bike is a metallic powder blue. Mostly because it's old and has lost most of its luster; or so I imagine. It could have easily been that color to begin with. Man I really like to get off on tangents. So anyhoo, I don't really feel like continuing so I think I'll stop soon. Is that really how its spelled? Continuing? Well the spell check has no problem so neither do I.
Well I guess I lied about not wanting to continue. I'll ramble on about other stuff now. I'm listening to a Pandora station based on Dub. For those non-existent reader of this blog that don't know what dub is here's a snippet from Wikipedia (because I'm lazy):
Dub is a genre of music[1] which grew out of reggae music in the 1960s, and is commonly considered a subgenre,[2] though it has developed to extend beyond the scope of reggae. Music in this genre consists predominantly of instrumental remixes of existing recordings[3] and is achieved by significantly manipulating and reshaping the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, and emphasizing the drum and bass parts (this stripped-down track is sometimes referred to as a 'riddim'). Other techniques include dynamically adding extensive echo, reverb, panoramic delay, and occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version or other works.
So now that that's out of the way. Goddammit I can't change the font
Okay, I think I got it. So now you know what I'm listening to. I bet you're wondering how I came across this genre on music. No, I'm not a stoner. I actually came across it in a book. "Neuromancer" by William Gibson, I first heard it on the audiobook that he narrated. Its really good by the way,the sound design really helps sell it. In the book there's this small colony of Rastafarians in space (no joke, just read the damn book) and they live in this cobbled together space station called "Freeside". In the parts where they are present they would play some light dub in the background. Hearing it there really caught my attention. It just seemed so relaxing and hypnotizing. The speaker I'm playing it on really helps too, it's very bass heavy without overpowering the rest of the sound. So, yeah. I'm kinda getting tired of writing this. I might write other stuff later, if the mood strikes me.
